Design is typically limited to function – what it does – and is done by engineering (red team). Manufacturing is all about how to make it and is done by manufacturing (blue team). Working separately there is local optimization. We must broad to design to include both – red and blue. Working across red-blue boundaries creates magic. This magic can only be done by the purple team.
Below is my first video post. I hope to do more. Let me know what you think.
Mike: Excellent video! Excellent point made. Bart
Mike, while your writings are already more expressive, it is also a welcome initiative to have your words heard and seen.
Hi Mike,
Great video post. I’ve read all your recent posts and think you are on target with your ideas conveyed in words, but video is a nice visual.
Thanks for all your thoughts and contributions…… Bruce
Mike,
It is all about common sense. A product design is worthless if it cant be manufactured. It surprises me that you would even have to tell someone that. I now wonder how many people sat there and thought to themselves “wow, what a great concspt, WE should try that”.
I like it! Excellent points and nice to see new media.
Mike- The video is a great addition to your writings. I am big on messaging, and how to connect with people, based on their communication style.
The Red / Blue divide cannot be over-emphasized. It is at the crux of many impediments to optimizing DFM, with emphasis on the FM.
Thanks for your feedback, Don. I will do more video posts. Mike
